Employee profile Jaakko Kammonen

24 Center offers help and advice for both urgent and non-urgent building services challenges and installations. Our company employs a wide range of professionals, including building services specialists, designers and customer service representatives. Together, they form a strong team and provide versatile solutions to our customers' building services needs.

To ensure the smooth delivery of assistance and to get the professionals in the partner network on the job quickly, the underlying technology must work like a well-oiled machine. The IT department at 24 Center is an area managed by Jaakko and Eero, and in this blog post we meet Jaakko Kammos, a software developer.

From automotive to mobile developer

Jaakko Kammonen has been interested in technology from a very early stage. This led him to study automotive engineering as a vehicle mechanic, after which he gained work experience in both vehicle maintenance and repair services and as a truck driver. The automotive sector is also a constantly evolving field in terms of information technology, and with this interest in development, Jaakko applied to study computer science with a focus on software development.

After graduating from Haaga-Helia and as a fresh IT graduate, Jaakko noticed in the job advertisements that 24 Center was looking for a mobile software developer. He sent a job application and soon received an invitation to an interview. Jaakko has now been working at 24 Center for just over two years. At the beginning of his employment, his main role was as a mobile developer. His work has now become more varied and he is increasingly working as a fullstack programmer.

Wide-ranging tasks as a software developer

The software used by 24 Center is designed by our IT team. Our working days consist of further development of our own software, maintenance tasks and the creation of new functionalities. 24 Center has offices in Finland, Sweden and Norway, but currently all technical development tasks are carried out in Finland. Jaakko says that you can develop your own skills every day. The way of working in different countries and the needs of people in different positions, for example in billing or customer service, must be taken into account when designing new features and implementing user requirements.

A working day involves a lot of searching, defining and prioritising information, but at the same time the work is rewarding. 24 Center's strategy is to make solving building services tasks and challenges as easy as possible for ordinary people. It's important to provide a seamless experience for the customer, from ordering work to after-sales service. The development of new features is a primary focus of this strategy. Jaakko explains how great it is to discover that a new feature that has been developed actually makes a colleague's working day easier or makes a customer's everyday life even more efficient. When such features that make everyday life smoother can be put into practice, Jaakko feels that his work is successful.

If necessary, he or she will provide IT support, for example to the partner network in using the 24 Center Partner application and may be involved in demonstrating the service to new users. Otherwise, customer work is the responsibility of 24 Center's customer service representatives and sales staff. Read more about the partner network's experience with 24 Center.

The potential of artificial intelligence at 24 Center

Artificial intelligence is seen as a big trend in many contexts, and while it sounds attractive and is widely hyped, it is not something that can be fully trusted for the time being.

AI can be used to make work more efficient, whether in programming or marketing, but ultimately it's up to the right person to check the final result. Jaakko believes that in the future, AI can be used more widely in the development of systems.

Currently, the partner network members' jobs are offered using geo-location data, with the app offering jobs based on location. This can reduce unnecessary travel from one end of town to the other, making work even more efficient. In addition, the use of location data helps to avoid unnecessary assignments, for example, a plumber in Rovaniemi will not get any added value from plumbing work in Helsinki. It is possible that in the future, AI will enable more efficient use of the data generated by algorithms and a more targeted offer of assignments to the partner network.

24 Center has created a ground-breaking concept and its progressiveness has created a strong competitive advantage. In the future, more companies may enter the market, but 24 Center's competitive edge is based on a functional and innovative software package. This enables the seamless implementation of the service concept throughout Finland and also in other Nordic countries.

Relaxing in nature in your free time

Jaakko spends most of his working day in front of a computer, so in his free time he tries to be active and varied. He regularly goes to the gym and plays padel.

In addition to indoor sports, Jaakko relaxes in nature. He resets his mind by fishing in his cottage, but mountain biking is also close to his heart. If nothing else, he can forget everything else when he's on the saddle. A tradition has become a fast-paced downhill cycling trip in the summer, when he rides his mountain bike down Finland's fells and dangers. Jako dreams of one day going abroad to the so-called big boys' hills in the Alps.
