TOP 7 most ordered HVAC works in winter

Winter brings with it a range of weather conditions, from severe frosts to mild, sheltering temperatures. This can put your home's building services systems to the test. In winter, most of our alarm calls are related to HVAC work, such as frozen pipes and heating problems. See below for a list of the seven most common alarm calls and make sure you know what to do when a situation calls for quick action.

Remember that if an accident happens, our customer service is ready to help you around the clock, every day of the year!

1. Thawing frozen pipes

Alert: Detached house. Built 40 years ago. No water coming out of taps. Fault investigation and repair required. Pipes probably frozen, thawing required.

Frozen pipes are one of the most common problems in winter and can cause urgent repairs. The progression of freezing is often slow, with ice accumulating around the edges of the pipe and eventually blocking it completely. As the weather cools, the ice melts and expands, which can break the pipe and lead to water damage.

Many people don't realise that a frozen pipe may already be damaged. Ice only prevents leakage and as it thaws, problems quickly appear. Structures can stay cold long after the outside temperature has risen because they warm up more slowly. Cooling the indoor air can also increase the risk.

Fortunately, freezing can be prevented. Make sure the indoor temperature stays above freezing, especially around pipes. If pipes are visible, protecting them with towels or mats is a good emergency measure. In severe frosts, you can leave taps on low flow, as moving water freezes more slowly. However, the best long-term solution is to carefully insulate the pipes.

2. Hot water tank leaks and joint problems

Alarm: detached house with a leak in the hot water supply from the water pipes. Investigation and repair of the fault.

A hot water tank is a key part of the heating and domestic hot water system of a home or property. In winter, problems with it and its connections are common, as cold weather puts a strain on the system and increases the risk of damage. Leakage situations require a rapid response.

Especially in older heaters, the joints deteriorate over time, so it is worth checking them regularly. The lifetime of a hot water heater is usually around 20 years. If it is time to service or replace your boiler, 24 Center is ready to help.

3. Underfloor heating problems

Alarm: underfloor heating pipe dripping from a manifold in the basement. Repair needed.

In winter, heating system failures are more pronounced, as they directly affect living comfort. Preventive checks should be carried out at least once a year, preferably before the winter season.

If you notice that your home is not heating evenly, 24 Center Customer Service can help. You don't need to know exactly what's wrong. We also offer troubleshooting visits to determine the causes of uneven heat distribution and repair the faults.

4. Leaking outdoor faucets or joints

Alarm: the tap by the outdoor hot tub has leaked inside. Fault investigation and repair required.

Outdoor water taps, such as garden water points, outdoor sprinklers and water posts, are small but important parts of a property's plumbing system. In winter, they are often forgotten because they are not used regularly. This can lead to insidious damage that requires a quick response.

As a preventive measure, it is a good idea to turn off the water at outdoor water points before frosts. Water points can also be insulated and protected, or taps can be replaced with frost-resistant models.

5. Blocked drains

Alarm: kitchen sink partially blocked, also needs opening.

Sewers are under constant strain in residential use, so we receive regular calls to our customer service department about blockages. Especially in kitchens and bathrooms, this is a recurring problem that requires a quick solution.

The most common causes of blockages are freezing of the trap and accumulated grease and hair. You can prevent blockages by installing a net in the shower floor drain to prevent loose hair from entering the drain. It is also best to avoid putting food waste down the toilet or flushing sauce jars down the sink.

6. Kitchen and bathroom tap installations

Alarm: switching on the kitchen tap. The customer already has the materials on site, all that's needed is installation.

Wet room tap installation is one of the most common non-urgent jobs. Updating your taps is not only an aesthetic choice, but also an economical one, as you can save water by choosing water-saving showers and taps. For example, faucet stops and faucets with motion sensors are both hygienic and cost-effective.

7. Dishwasher and washing machine installations

Alert: Be there today or tomorrow. Dishwasher installation.

In winter, a popular unhurried job to make everyday life run more smoothly is the installation and removal of washing machines. These contract jobs are particularly common when moving house, as most landlords and home insurance companies require a professional to install the washing machine.

Did you know that you can book a professional from 24 Center for a hassle-free installation and repair? These include, for example, the installation of taps or washing machines, which you can book in advance for the day of your choice.
