Finland will take a major step towards a more sustainable future when electric car charging points become mandatory in non-residential buildings with more than 20 parking spaces. The installation of charging points must be completed by 31 December 2024, especially in office, commercial and industrial buildings such as municipal offices, libraries, kindergartens, shopping and business centres, churches and parish halls. Property owners are responsible for proper installation, and failure to do so can result in a penalty payment.
Please note that the change in the law does not apply to:
- residential buildings if at least half of their floor area is occupied by residential use (e.g. housing associations and detached houses).
- buildings where no energy is used to maintain the indoor climate (e.g. for heating or cooling).
- buildings used by the defence administration.
- buildings owned and operated by micro-enterprises (less than 10 annual work units and up to €2 million annual turnover or balance sheet total).
A charging point under the law must have a capacity of at least 3.7 kilowatts and be designed for charging electric vehicles. In addition, the point must be equipped with either a Type 2 and/or CCS type connector.

Do you need an electric vehicle charging point for your home or housing company? Consider these things:
The heating pole can in some cases be used to charge an electric car, but we always recommend that a professional checks the suitability of the socket. Prolonged charging places a significant strain on the power grid and incorrectly sized sockets can overheat, even posing a fire risk. To ensure safety, a check is essential.
Installing an adapter or other charging device always requires a qualified electrician. 24 Center's experienced professionals can check your existing outlets and install safe charging points in your home or condominium.
Installing charging points in the parking spaces of the building will make charging easy and increase the comfort of living and the attractiveness of the apartments. Even if not everyone has an electric car yet, installing more charging points at once will save money in the long run. It is also easy to activate the charging points afterwards. If you are the decision-maker of a housing association, contact 24 Center for a competitive offer.
