water leak in the roof

Water leaking from the living room ceiling

It was Christmas Day in a family in Hämeenlinna. The family was having a nice and peaceful Christmas holiday, looking forward to the New Year. The father was out jogging, the mother was cooking dinner in the kitchen and the children were playing with the new toys they had received for Christmas. After a while, one of the children came to tell their mother that the upstairs toilet was overflowing. Mum stopped cooking and went to see. The water was not coming down from the toilet and had overflowed the edges of the toilet.

After a while, the father of the family arrived and took action to unblock the blockage. After a plumber, a bear pump and a few drops of sweat, it was decided that the toilet drain was unlikely to be opened at home. At the same time, it was discovered that water was coming through the living room ceiling. Panic set in.

They called the first number the search engine gave them. The phone rang at the 24 Center office, and a customer service representative listened to the problem. The site details were quickly taken down and a plumber with drainage tools was dispatched as a matter of urgency. It was already around 6pm, but the on-call plumbers were on site in about half an hour.

The plumbers found that the drain had broken in the blockage and was leaking water through the living room ceiling. The drain was quickly drained to prevent further damage. The plumbers then found that the structure was wet and advised the customer to contact the insurance company. A visit by a vacuum truck would probably be covered by the insurance company. The customer was also advised on how to proceed with the repair of the damage.

24 Center's invoice to the customer was:

Labour contribution: 396,00 e
Alert premium: 267,00 e
Sewer camera: 271,25 e
Sewer vacuum cleaner: 271,25 e
Total: 1213.42 e

The customer was satisfied with 24 Center's involvement in the case. This is how he described what happened in his feedback: "The nature of the damage and the need to get help quickly was understood in a professional manner. The installer did his best with energy. We received a good first response and the installer's actions prevented further damage; vacuuming the waste water from the pipe prevented all the waste still in the pipe from flowing into the structures and into the downstairs living room. His work ended at the point where the potential work was done. He assessed the existing situation and advised contacting the insurance company. Thank you! The toilet sewage is a disgusting accident and it came out of the blue, as an uncontrollable situation it is upsetting. My quick reaction and getting help quickly considering the time (Saturday, early evening) was a good thing. So it's great that such an accident hotline exists. The necessary first aid has been obtained here by accident. I can find no room for improvement from this experience. I hope this emergency service will continue."
