Repair of a leak in a hot water heater as an on-call job on Monday night between 20.00. and 23.00.
The elderly tenant of a terraced house in Helsinki was awakened by a noise coming from the apartment. The noise was coming from the hot water heater in the boiler room. The elderly lady panicked and dug her mobile phone out of her pocket. She tapped 0100 2470 on the screen and called the 24 Centre.
The call was answered by a 24 Center customer service representative. She calmly listened to what the caller had to say and quickly put the elderly lady at ease with her knowledgeable approach. The customer service agent quickly took down the customer's contact details and a description of the assignment. He then pressed the Send button on the control system and forwarded the order to a nearby plumber who took over the job.
On arriving at the townhouse, the plumber greeted the elderly lady, who was very pleased with the speedy arrival. The installer arrived at the site within half an hour of the lady's call to 24 Center. The elderly lady explained the situation and showed the installer the status of the water meter and the water heater. The professional and knowledgeable plumber was able to fix the problem quickly. He made a final report of the job for billing purposes, describing the progress of the job as follows:
"The water meter is closed by the occupant, because the hissing noise is going on and the meter is spinning by itself. Carefully released the pressure from the mixing valve and found the safety valve leaking through the nozzle. Removed the old relief valve from the mixing valve and installed a new 1/2″ / 10 bar relief valve suitable for the site and the necessary bundles to connect the old downpipe to the relief valve. Opened the water pressure, verified that there was no more noise and checked the joints for dryness. Tested the normal operation of the safety valve. According to the resident, the water bill was several hundred euros per month and since moving in, there was not enough hot water for normal living. The hot water from the safety valve has been leaking directly from the boiler to the drain for a very long time, so the hot water has not been kept in the boiler for long. The work was carried out between 20.00 and 23.00."
