Installation of a hot water heater

Information about the hot water heater and its installation!

Installation of a hot water heater

The hot water heater plays an important role, because in Finnish private houses and terraced houses with electric heating, it is this device that heats the domestic hot water. In other words, as the name suggests, the main function of the water heater is to heat water and ensure that there is always sufficient hot water available for use by the occupants.

How much does it cost to install a hot water heater?

The hot water tank is a well-insulated tank constructed of durable material. The water heater is equipped with an electric resistance which heats the water by electricity. Before buying a hot water heater, it is always necessary to determine how many users the heater will have and how much hot water will be needed.

So in some households, hot water may only be needed to take a shower, while in others it may be needed to run the dishwasher, take a shower, fill the bath and clean up. Fortunately, there is no need to calculate the amount of hot water too precisely before installation, as the important thing is that there will be enough hot water even for momentary peaks in consumption.

The water heater itself and the cost of installing it depends on a number of factors:

  • Reservoir size, efficiency and volume
  • Reservoir model (e.g. floor, wall, hybrid, etc.)
  • What other measures are included in the service (just the water heater vs. just the installation or both together)

As a general rule, the average price of a hot water heater is between €300 and €2500. The cost of a hot water heater, its installation and commissioning, on the other hand, is around €600-3 000, depending on the situation. If a boiler has already been purchased, its installation and connection will cost on average between € 300 and € 1 000. Replacing or replacing the boiler is also in the same price range as installation and connection.

Why do I need to maintain my water heater?

As mentioned earlier, the purpose of a hot water tank is to heat and store the domestic hot water needed for everyday household use. In some cases, larger hot water storage tanks are also an important part of the household heating system.

The technical lifetime of hot water heaters is around 15-20 years, i.e. they last for quite a long time. However, no matter how high quality the materials and components used in the construction of a storage heater are, they will slowly wear out, especially if the heater is in continuous use.

When a hot water tank exceeds 20 years of age, the risk of leakage and breakage starts to increase gradually. Sooner or later, the tank will break down. As there is a high risk of water damage, the boiler should be serviced at regular intervals and replaced as soon as the technical life of the boiler is over.

The danger with a worn-out hot water heater is that extensive water damage can occur over such a long period of time and so insidiously that the occupants of the house do not notice until it is too late. In the event of water damage, the cost of repair is also likely to be many times higher than the cost of maintaining and replacing the hot water heater. In addition, in the event of water damage, exceeding the technical lifetime of the water heater can also cause significant problems in claiming and paying insurance compensation.

The installation of a hot water heater should be done by a professional

The installation of a hot water heater should be carried out by a professional plumber, as incorrect installation will invalidate your insurance cover. In some cases, the installation of the heater may also require electrical work, in which case an electrician will be called in. Proper installation will ensure that the boiler has a full technical lifetime and will prevent premature wear and tear during use and the resulting potential financial damage.
