The time of the year's highest electricity consumption is here, and many people remember the spikes in their electricity bills last winter. We encourage you to continue saving electricity, as small actions can have a big impact on both your bank account balance and the amount of electricity you can save to reduce your impact on the environment.
But don't turn off the heating in your property to save on electricity costs. Rapid temperature fluctuations can cause pipe bursts and damage the structure of your house. If you want to adjust the temperature of your property to the base temperature, the base temperature can be 5 to 10 degrees depending on the age of the property. Maintenance heating prevents mould growth and water condensation, but make radical temperature adjustments with care to prevent the indoor temperature from dropping too quickly.
Big savings often come from small streams, so in this blog post we've listed 10 easy ways to save on your electricity bills.
1. Move curtains and heavy furniture away from radiators
Are the radiators in your apartment covered by thick curtains, or have you placed large pieces of furniture, such as a sofa or chest of drawers, in front of the radiator? Thick and massive materials prevent heat from entering the room, so the heat from the radiators is only circulating behind a curtain, sofa or other large piece of furniture.
2. Lower the room temperature
An energy-efficient and healthy indoor temperature is 20-21 degrees Celsius. In the bedroom, the temperature should be cooler, between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. As a rule, people sleep better in slightly cooler conditions.
It is also worth considering whether, for example, it is necessary to keep the underfloor heating on all the time. Of course, in wet rooms after a shower, underfloor heating can help to dry the room quickly, but keeping it on 24 hours a day may surprise you on your electricity bill.
3. Shorten the time spent in the shower
By reducing the time you spend in the shower, you can save a lot of money. Shorter showers reduce the amount of energy used to heat water.
4. Check the age of electrical equipment
Old household appliances, especially fridges and freezers, easily take up the lion's share of electricity consumption.
Also remember to keep your refrigeration equipment tidy. If your freezer has a thick layer of ice, it will eat up a lot of your electricity bill. Regularly vacuuming the back of refrigerators not only saves electricity but also extends their life.
5. Prefer a dishwasher to washing dishes by hand
Mechanical dishwashing uses less electricity and water than manual dishwashing. By using the ECO programme and washing full loads, you get the most ecological solution of all.
However, sometimes it is not possible to use a dishwasher. In this case, use warm water for washing up, not hot. Because, as mentioned earlier in connection with showering, the water is heated by electricity, and this increases the number of turns on the electric meter.
6. Wash only full loads of machine laundry
Wash your laundry on full machines and follow the instructions for washing textiles. Often, lower temperatures will clean your clothes. Wash only really dirty clothes, you will save money and prolong the life of your clothes, even if they only need airing.
Remember to check the age of your washing machine, as old appliances can use more electricity than new ones.
Choose a convenient time to do your laundry. Especially if you have electricity on the exchange, check when electricity prices are at their lowest and schedule your laundry around this time.

7. Turn off the TV and computer if you are not using them. Check that the plug is not unnecessarily plugged into the wall
Many homes have a wide range of entertainment electronics. Leaving them on sleep mode will add to your electricity bill, so make it a habit that when you stop using them - you turn off the machine and unplug it from the wall. A device that's on a constant power source, such as a phone charger, consumes a surprising amount of electricity.
8. Check the window seals
Do you pull at home? You're guaranteed to lose heat if the window seals haven't been updated in a while. Poorly sealed windows also let moisture into the building. If your home feels cool, it's easy to turn up the radiator, but it's no good if the unnecessary draught from the window is sucking the heat in.
✔ If your windows or their seals need to be updated, you can call 24 Centre for help to get the job done.
9. Electric sauna on only for heating and bathing
Keep the heater on only while you are heating the sauna and while you are bathing. A heater left on unnecessarily will put a strain on your electricity consumption.

10. Motion sensors for lights
Do you live in a multi-storey building with a lot of stairs, or do you have a lot of corridors? It can feel like the light switch is always in the wrong place. A motion sensor makes it easier to move between floors and in large rooms, especially when you have to carry laundry or heavy shopping bags in your hands, for example.
Motion-activated and time-controlled lights also improve home security. At the same time, you can save on electricity consumption, because when motion is no longer detected, time-out prevents the lights from being switched on unnecessarily.
